First Class Summer:
During the summer before my first class year I reported to the USS Ford and become a part of the crew for four weeks, taking part in drills, and standing watches underway. This experience gave me a first-hand knowledge of the daily routine of the Navy at sea onboard a surface combatant. After my experience on the USS Ford I was certain that I wanted to be a Surface Warfare Officer, however I gave the submarine community one more look. After my cruise on the USS Ford I reported to the USS Ohio for one more cruise on an Ohio Class Submarine, the USS Ohio. After spending a month on the Ohio I made my decision to service select the Surface community. To finish off my First Class Summer I did another three week cruise in a Yard Patrol Craft, this time helping teach the third class midshipmen seamanship and navigation while I stood officer of the deck.
